The COSduty Knowledge Module (KM) for PATROL is one of a number
of PATROL KMs that OSM provides to extend BMC Software’s PATROL to full
systems management capability. By linking the COSMOS modules with PATROL,
these Knowledge Modules help to provide a comprehensive, integrated systems
management environment.
The COSduty KM for PATROL integrates OSM’s COSduty operator
duty management application with PATROL and appears as a PATROL Knowledge
Module. It is both accessed from the PATROL console and propagates alarms
to the console. To the administrator it appears as a PATROL product. It
enables production management to define and enforce systems management policy
across all the open systems in the datacenter through the automation, delegation
and control of procedures which carry out those policies through a simple
to use and secure PATROL interface.

Monitoring of operator duties
The COSduty KM for PATROL monitors operator duties and, if scheduled
duties are nearly overdue, then a warning is generated. If duties become
overdue then an alarm is generated. For example, if an administrator needs
to remove last night’s backup tapes before today’s backup is run then a
warning may be issued two hours before backup is due to start if the duty
to remove those tapes has not been performed. If the duty has still not
been performed half an hour later then an alarm could be generated.
Certified for PATROL
The COSduty KM for PATROL has been certified for PATROL by BMC Software
under the MarketZone program. This assures customers that Certified for
PATROL products are of the highest quality and integrate with the PATROL
Application Management standards.

OSM has integrated the systems management suite, COSMOS, with PATROL so
that the applications look and feel like PATROL applications, are driven
from the PATROL menus and propagate their alarms to the PATROL console.
The combination of PATROL and COSMOS provides a comprehensive integrated

from a central point and source their solution from a single vendor (i.e.
either BMC Software or one of their resellers).
